Busy Weekend at the Sheehans

We kept the girls very busy this weekend. Saturday started with their second swim class which went...swimmingly (heh). The girls are getting good at kicking their feet and scooping their hands and have a great time singing songs with the other kids in the class.

Saturday afternoon was a visit to the Blue Hills Trailside Museum. The girls had a great time meeting the otter, owls, hawks, and of course the ducks. Here they are "quack quacking" through the fence.

The girls are also enjoying their nice new activity table for drawing and coloring (two of their favorite things to do).

Here are the girls showing off their new table and the Mickey and Minnie that LaLa (Arlinda) got for them. They LOVE Mickey and Minnie.

Sunday we took the girls to the Belkin Lookout Farm for some apple picking. Hailey plopped down in the middle of the orchard and decided to dig in. She was a little more into picking apples than her sister. They both wanted to carry the apple bags on their arms, even after they filled them up with apples.

The "Farm" had lots of other stuff to do too. They had a petting zoo including pony rides and camel rides. Two little cow calves licked at the girls through the fence, which they thought was the funniest thing that happened all weekend. Even tonight, when we asked what they saw at the farm, they stuck their tongues out and laughed.

Here are some pictures from the play area at Lookout Farm:

We definitely kept our girls active, and guess they were pretty pooped.

Fun Kick!

We took the girls to their first swim "lesson" today! Not so much a lesson, it's really just a half hour of parents playing in the water with their kids. But the girls had a blast, I'm guessing, from the fact that Riley said "Fun! Kick!" all the way home.

Here they are getting ready to go!

Self Portrait

Hailey got her hands on Arlinda's camera when we were out to dinner on Sunday night and had it figured out in no time. Her favorite subject...herself.

"Hat" Joke

Apparently this is a common thing amongst small children, or at least children of people who went to Michigan Law. Tonight, Riley put her sippy cup on my head, said "Hat!" and then laughed her little head off. The girls do all kinds of silly things to make each other laugh, but man, did she crack herself up at her little joke. The rest of my sample of small children of Michigan Law grads making hat jokes comes from our sister blog: Zoey and Violet both did the same thing.

The girls are counting now. They can count to ten very well, and will count anything and everything. But it usually goes like this...
One...
Two...
Tree...
Pour...
Pive...
Six...
**pause while we skip Seven***
Eighty (yes, Eighty)...
Nine...
TEN!!!

Riley has been rambling in very serious, very long, very unintelligible sentences these days. I wish I knew what she was trying to say.

Things are going great with Arlinda, and we will have new pictures soon!

Nature Center

Well, we're pretty caught up now I think. Quick recap: As Chris so nicely blogged about yesterday, we said good bye to Jade last week, and now we are spending a few days at Grandma Sandy's in Massena, NY on vacation. When we return home, we will be welcoming a new au pair for another exciting year! This has been such a great experience for our family, and we can't wait for Arlinda to arrive, from Kosovo by way of Sweden. We love that we are raising the girls to be aware of different cultures and languages. For anyone requiring childcare, we highly recommend it!

Anyway, the girls are very much enjoying their time with Grandma Sandy, Aunt Kelli, and cousins Alexis and MacKenzie. Yesterday we took a nice trip to the Nature Center, which was the perfect size for a couple of 20 month olds to go exploring.

I feel bad for this poor turtle:

Riley seems to be treating the fox a little nicer than the turtle:
