Bath Time!

Riley's thinking about food while getting all cleaned up

So is her sister!

The girls all nice and clean. They never seem to be awake at the same time for pictures.

It's been almost two weeks at home now for the girls and they are really getting settled in. They love bath time cause they get nice and warm in the water and get all the milk they drool all over themselves cleaned off.

Grandma Sandy has been staying with us since last Friday and has been a HUGE help. Two girls times 8 feedings per day equals...lots of time for Mom and Dad. So we are very thankful for all the help from the grandparents and Stacey's sister Sandy (and Jordan!) and of course Erin who will be with us this summer.

Lots of people ask us if we get the girls confused since they are identical. So far it hasn't been a problem because Hailey is still quite a bit bigger and darker than her sister. As you can see above, Hailey provided us with a nice way to tell the girls apart even when they even out in size and color. Those two red marks on her chest are little birthmarks that should go away within the first couple of years.

Sorry - too tired to write anything clever. Of course, we know our admiring public just wants pictures and doesn't care what we write.

Busy Day

Hailey with her cousin Jordan

Grandpa holding Riley

Riley and Hailey had a busy day today getting to know some of their family. Jordan showed she was an absolute natural with the kids. Riley and Hailey are both looking forward to lots of babysitting sessions with her.

Tom of course put both the girls to work installing new lights in their room. The picture above was taken right after Riley finished cutting a hole in the closet ceiling.

But seriously, the girls are doing great. They both developed huge appetites over the last 24 hours so they'll be getting nice and big soon!

Happy Family

All is well at the Sheehan home. Over 48 hours at home and the babies are doing great. We had our first pediatrician appointment today (leaving the house for the first time was an adventure) and the doc says they're perfect (which we already knew)! Mom and dad are getting a decent amount of sleep and squeezing in a few naps here and there, thanks to Erin. We wish she didn't have to go back to school on Monday!

And to all those impatient commentors, you try taking care of twins and see how much time you have to post on a blog. :-)

They're Home!

Sisterly spat? Nah, just pooped from the ride home.

The girls fresh from their trip home

The girls finally came home today, 3 weeks to the day from the day they were born. They report that they are very happy to be in a house instead of a noisy bright NICU. However, they are not looking forward to the next time they have to be wedged into the back of our Jetta.

Clean Babies

Here's a picture of some clean, happy babies after Mom gave Riley a bath and Dad gave Hailey a bath (Riley's on the left).

Keep your fingers crosssed - tomorrow is homecoming day for both girls!!

One More

Here's the bonus picture of the day. Thought this was too cute not to put up right away. They're looking more & more alike every day! Riley is on the left, Hailey is on the right.

Hailey decided she wanted to wait for Riley, so she's going to spend a few more days in the NICU and not come home tomorrow. Hopefully both will be home by the end of the week!

Movin' and Shakin'

Riley in a crib!

Erin & Hailey

Riley was moved into a crib today, and Hailey's feeding tube has once again been removed (this time by the nurse, not by Hailey herself). Everyone is doing great and gaining weight. Don't hold us to it, but we hear Hailey may come home on Monday! Riley will be close behind. As long as they continue eating well for a few days in a row, they'll have the green light to come home.

Erin and the girls got to spend some time together yesterday - they have to get to know each other very well since they'll be spending the summer together!

Just another Wednesday in the NICU

Hailey in a crib!

Hailey's new hat

What up? Riley's new outfit

This evening's visit to the NICU was quite eventful. Although Hailey's feeding tube is back in (she's not quite ready to eat all day on her own without falling asleep) she was moved to a regular crib and out of the incubator. Riley will soon follow. We also brought in some of their own clothes, which makes things feel more homey. It was fun to watch dad struggle to get Riley's arms in the shirt, but I'm sure he'll pick that up just as fast as diaper changing.

P.S. The girls are now 2 weeks old! And they're doing pretty darn good considering they're still about 4 1/2 weeks away from their due date!

Hailey's a fiesty one!

Today Hailey decided that she didn't need her feeding tube anymore, so she yanked it out. The nurses decided to just leave it that way and see if she can eat without it full time. One step closer to coming home! Amazing what having a tube un-taped from your face can do for your mood!

New Digs

Grandma Gerry and Riley

The girls have moved into the intermediate area of the NICU and are really settling in. It's much more laid back there without all of the beeping and drama that their former neighbors used to provide. Both Hailey and Riley are getting used to the idea of the bottle, which is good. No other significant news to report on the baby front, which is also good.

Ok, so maybe we are identical...

Riley is on the left, Hailey on the right

Chris went back to work today, so you'll have to put up with slightly less humorous posts for a while. He'll be taking a few weeks off once the girls come home.

All is well, the girls will in fact graduate to the intermediate area tonight, which is much calmer and has far fewer beeping machines. We can't wait!

Happy New Year!

Hailey

Riley

Happy New Year from the Sheehan girls! When we got to the NICU today, there was a New Year's card for us from each of the girls with these pictures. No update today, but everyone is still doing very well. They'll be moving into the intermediate area soon!
